LA BELLA ROSIN
Moncalvo is one of the main towns in the Asti area, famous far beyond its borders for the centuries-old Fat Ox Fair held every August. Local cuisine naturally centers on excellent meats, used both for the hearty main courses and for stuffed pasta dishes. The entrance is on a small, intimate square just steps from the center.
You can sit in the indoor dining room or, in the summer, under the outdoor terrace. Hand-chopped raw Fassone beef is a regular feature among the appetizers (€9), along with Piedmontese Fassone veal topside with tuna sauce and anchovies in bagnet vert. For the first course (€10), agnolotti with roast beef sauce, a thin pasta dish, are a must, but the potato gnocchi or egg tagliolini with meat ragù are also delicious. Among the main courses (€14), meats continue to dominate, with Moncalvo beef tagliata, beef braised in Barolo with polenta, roasted local kid, and Carmagnola grey rabbit with garden herbs. The desserts (€5) include nougat parfait and bonet.
The wine list is extensive, with a strong focus on Piedmontese labels. A tasting menu is also available for €30, while—especially in the winter—there are plenty of evenings dedicated to beef.
