La Locanda del Seicento
The earliest information we have on this house dates to 1620, when Casalnoceto was under Spanish rule. It was home for some time to the commander Ambrogio Spinola, Marquis of Los Balbases, Grandee of Spain and Governor of the State of Milan, harshly criticized by Manzoni in the Betrothed for not having considered the plight of the plague in Milan, because too involved in the war to conquer Casale Monferrato (he died in Castelnuovo Scrivia on 25 September 1630). The Locanda was later transformed into a resting spot for travelers with the name of "osteria spagnola". In the second half of the 18th century it became the property of a Spanish family, and then transferred to a noble family of "Nucetum". It has remained intact over the centuries and thanks to skillful restoration (the vaults of the rooms and the beams in walnut are authentic, as are the handmade terracotta floors) it has been returned to its former glory after a period of serious neglect. A restaurant that serves quality surf and turf dishes, which can be traditional but also sophisticated and original.
