Sinagoga e Musei Ebraici di Casale Monferrato

The Synagogue was built in 1595 in the center of the old ghetto and renovated during the second half of the 19th century. In the prayer hall, dominated by the architectural splendor of the Holy Ark housing the Scrolls of the Law, Piedmontese Baroque Rococo reigns supreme throughout the furnishings and decoration. The two floors of the women's galleries house the Museum of Jewish Art and History, which displays a rich collection of furnishings and objects for worship. Of particular interest are the section dedicated to the presentation of the festivities that accompany the fundamental religious and social stages of Jewish life and the section dedicated to modern Jewish art, which displays works by artists such as Emanuele Luzzati, Roland Topor, and Antonio Recalcati. The evocative basement room, once home to the ancient unleavened bread oven, is now dedicated to the Museum of Enlightenment, which houses works by artists who have interpreted the theme of the Hanukkah Lamp in original ways.
