Pinacoteca del Convento dei Padri Cappuccini
The 17th century Capuchin convent of Voltaggio is home to an important art gallery that features a large collection of paintings and sculptures. Put together over a forty year period in the second half of the 19th century by a Capuchin monk, Father Pietro Repetto from Voltaggio, the collection is not exactly in harmony with the spirituality of the Capuchin order which demands sober and austere religious centres but is in line with the principles of the Council of Trent with respect to the worship of images and their important function in teaching. A visit to the art gallery takes back to the artistic culture of Genoa to which the village of Voltaggio has always been close; the collection largely consists of works from the Ligurian School of the 17th and 18th centuries and allows to meet artists like Anton Maria Maragliano, Agostino Bombelli, Luca Cambiaso, Domenico Fiasella and the local painter Sinibaldo Scorza. The current layout of the gallery allows for a logical visit that finishes in the Capuchin church with its baroque style, built together with the convent in 1603. Summer season opening Sunday and Public holidays: 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm.
