Palazzo Alfieri – Museo Alfieriano
The great Asti tragedian Vittorio Alfieri was born here on January 16, 1749. The palace passed to his family in the 17th century and was "modernized" around 1736 by the architect Benedetto Alfieri (Vittorio's cousin). Beyond the small atrium is a dramatic trapezoidal courtyard that, on the left, opens onto the garden, dominated by the 1849 plane tree. The main floor includes the apartments and the bedroom where Vittorio Alfieri was born; he lived in this house only until the age of five. The palace houses the Fondazione Centro Studi Alfieriani and the Museo Alfieriano. The Guglielminetti Foundation, located on the ground floor of Palazzo Alfieri, hosts a busy calendar of temporary exhibitions. The permanent exhibition, inaugurated in 2016 in the underground rooms of Palazzo Alfieri, features a collection of sculptures and scenography spanning fifty years of the great Asti artist's career.
