Il Sentiero delle Ginestre
The Broom Trail is now a classic route in the Acquese area. Leaving the private road that leads to the Cascina Le Piagge, turn left onto a quiet provincial road. Proceed downhill for an initial stretch, then with some easy ups and downs for about 2 km, you reach the crossroads for Valle Croce. Taking the secondary asphalt road on the left, which winds through the woods, you descend for a short stretch. At the edge of the woods, the asphalt road ends and you continue on a pleasant dirt road, with gentle ups and downs, surrounded by colorful broom bushes. The road halfway up the hill runs along the entire ridge, skirting some vineyards. Crossing the small asphalt road again, continue left, reaching the small but characteristic village of Ovrano (a hamlet of Acqui Terme) after a few hundred meters. After a short break, we set off again, taking the path marked 531. The road is white, wide, and offers views of the city of Acqui Terme. The descent will lead us to the spa area. In the final stretch, you can take a detour on the asphalt road to avoid a beautiful, slightly steeper section of path through the woods. Once we reach the spa area, crossing the bridge next to the Roman Arches leads to the city center. Here, you can visit the historic center, the Bollente hot spring, the Paleologi Castle, and the central pedestrian street. The return journey will be by minibus. By Giuseppe Rossi
