ARBIOLA - ristorante

Do you know why we're so happy to tell you about this stop? Because a year after our thrilling experience, the cuisine has held its own. Despite the economic crisis, the dwindling tourism, and everything else that goes against it. But we're happy because this is a truly ideal destination, nestled in the countryside where Barbera vines grow. We're in the premises of a winery, Arbiola, and its restaurant is a bright, spacious, and truly inviting room. And then there are the chefs, two strong-willed, tenacious, talented young men who have endured and deserve a prize for this. In the dining room is the excellent Ivan Cavallari, while in the kitchen is Bruno Nobile. And he's a good one, but on the night of our visit, Ivan did just as well. Once upon a time, in this town whose name is also linked to a variety of tomatoes (Cirio was from around here, after all), there were extraordinary apples. Today, business has slowed, while the wine continues to tell its story.

The four-course tasting menu is offered at €35. Among our appetizers, we remember the salt-baked potato stuffed with egg yolk and gratinated with fondue, along with the Fassone tartare (from the extraordinary Ariotti butcher shop). This year, we were surprised by the purple gnocchi with ragù, as well as the handmade agnolotti. From other visits, we remember a well-made Carnaroli (€11) with red cabbage and pomegranate. Excellent. Among the main courses (€17), the rabbit with Taggiasca olives, pine nuts, and unfiltered craft beer, as well as the pork tenderloin with a pistachio crust and a creamy Barbera soup made with the estate's own wine (Carlotta). From other visits, we also enjoyed the pork tenderloin marinated in Marsala, as well as the cod. And to finish (desserts €5), a curious panna cotta flavored with violets and served with a violet granita. Trust us: it's truly a treat!
