Acqui Terme
Description Itinerary dedicated to the discovery of Acqui, characterized by unique landscapes for the Brachetto DOCG wine. Acqui Terme, the quintessential spa town (the sulphur-rich water emerges in the city centre at 75 degrees) known in roman times for the important therapeutic properties of its waters. The city is an open-air museum, and its centre is rich in wine bars and shops which offer outstanding wines and products.
The tour continues to Alice Bel Colle, a small village surrounded by vineyards and a scenic lookout point to admire the surrounding countryside. The discovery of local products continues in Morsasco, in an agriturismo which will show the trades connected to the land, wine and cooking.
Program
Day 1
Arrive to Acqui Terme and walk in the centre with visit to the Bollente fountain, the Cathedral of the Assumption (home to the masterpiece of the Spanish painter Bartolomè Bermejo, the triptych of Our Lady of Montserrat).
Stop off at the Regional Wine Shop Terme e Vino to taste local wines including Brachetto DOCG in all its variations. In the afternoon, the tour continues with Piazza Italia and the historic Liberty-style café of the Grand Hotel Nuove Terme. Shopping in the streets of the historic centre. Dinner in osteria with tasting of traditional specialties, overnight accommodation in semi-central hotel.
Day 2
After breakfast, transfer to Alice Bel Colle. This small village lies a few kilometres from Acqui and features a magnificent lookout point that offers an all-round view of the surrounding hills. Visit to outstanding winery and wine tasting.
Lunch at leisure or stop off in Strevi for a picnic among the vineyards (from May to October). In the afternoon, return to Acqui Terme and visit (optional and by appointment) Villa Ottolenghi, ancient historic residence whose gardens received the European Garden Award in 2011. Dinner in hotel and overnight accommodation.
Day 3
After breakfast, transfer to Morsasco. In the small village visit the castle and its tower, an out and out panoramic terrace over Monferrato. Lunch in agriturismo based on local products. In the afternoon, possibility to participate in activities such as cooking classes and farm experiences (booking required and
additional charge).
